Naughty Dog is currently engaged in the development of the standalone extension “Uncharted Lost Legacy”. It is supposed to be released in the course of the year for the PlayStation 4. In advance, the editors of GameInformer could snap a few info about this project. In a recent interview, the makers talked about the selection of the protagonists and the decision to offer the new story as a standalone extension.
With “Uncharted 4” the Nathan Drake saga was basically completed and behind closed doors is already working on “The Last of Us Part II”. Therefore, Naughty Dog has decided against another complete game in the case of “Uncharted Lost Legacy“. Since the narrative would go beyond the size of a classic expansion, the decision was made on a standalone extension, which could appear within a year.
At the beginning of the development, a suitable protagonist was searched for, and Sully was initially considered a favorite. However, due to the age of these characters, the authors would have had to leave in time for a younger Sully because a certain setting was planned. However, his past as a navy did not fit into the planned action. Nathan Drake’s new generation also came into the conversation. In the end, the choice fell to Chloe and Nadine.
“We had the unique opportunity to do something that is truly stand-alone, unlike Left Behind, which was a missing storyboard from The Last of Us,” according to author Josh Scherr. “We tried to keep it small,” added the game director Kurt Margenau. “But when we started developing ideas, it became clear with new characters and in this genre of Uncharted it must be great. In gameplay, we wanted to try something new, we felt that it needed more space.“
