The Nintendo Switch has made an excellent start and is on course in Japan to overtake the PlayStation 4 next year. Also in other countries, the console sold well. This is a reason for Sony to stay alert. The Nintendo Switch can not be ignored.
In March 2017, the Nintendo Switch came on the market. After initially there was doubt whether the handheld hybrid after the unsuccessful Wii U for Nintendo can turn things around, now it is clear: The Nintendo Switch is a complete success and was able to rise to the fastest selling Sytsem of the Japanese.
The PlayStation 4 has not done so visibly harmed and the Sony console has this year reached the best figures since the launch. However, Sony has recognized that the Nintendo Switch has become a platform that can not be ignored anymore. This is what Sony’s Head of Corporate Planning referred to Kazuhiko Takeda in an interview with Asia Nikkei.
“In our gaming business, we have strong sales of PS4 on the way to Christmas,” said Takeda. “But we can not ignore the Nintendo Switch, which has already caught the attention of customers, it’s our business to sell both the console and the games for it, and we’re also trying to get customers to do it regularly for content to pay, for example through subscription services. ”
What exactly is meant by this statement is not very clear. Sony may want to bring more PlayStation Plus memberships and other subscription services like PlayStation Now to the man or woman in the future. This would allow customers to be tied to the PlayStation family, leaving them less with the idea of moving away. Already the Wii showed, however, that the possession of a console does not exclude the inheritance of a second one.
