Over the past few weeks, we have seen success stories about the official launch of the new Nintendo Switch at regular intervals.
While Nintendo wanted to call no handfesten numbers so far, unofficial extrapolations showed that in just a few days 1.5 million units of Switch migrated over the shop counters. Via Twitter, the leading analyst Daniel Ahmad now spoke up and went a little closer to the commercial success of Nintendo Switch.
According to Ahmad, the data available to him shows that Switch was particularly successful in North America and Europe. It was noticeable that nearly every buyer bought the fantasy adventure “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild“, which makes the assumption that first the nude Nintendo- or “Zelda” fans attacked. Therefore, Ahmad designates the Switch as a “Zelda” machine. This is also shown by the fact that other launch titles show significantly weaker sales figures.
According to the analyst “Splatoon 2”, the next big titles are likely to find numerous buyers after the successful predecessor. The problem is that the casual market of Nintendo is hardly ever served. In order to reach sales numbers on the Wii level, Nintendo would have to improve here and publish titles that score above all with the intelligent use of the exclusive switch features.
Finally, Ahmad points out that it is still too early to speak of a success or a failure at Switch, as the system should hold its ground beyond the year 2017. According to Ahmad, Nintendo is faced with the challenge of tying third-party players to Switch over the long term. Above all the target group, who acquires Switch, can make Nintendo Switch life difficult. Therefore, according to the analyst, the analyst assumes that the switch is used by third parties primarily for creative experiments and not for the implementation of their multiplatform titles.
