Valve’s controllers have now unveiled a new concept of a future VR controller. Thus, the VR controller “Knuckles” will take into account all ten fingers.
Since the technology of the virtual reality headsets is largely still in the children’s shoes, it is not surprising that occasionally also new patents or also concepts are revealed. In the meantime, Valve has unveiled a complete design of a future VR controller, which is to take the control in the virtual space a step further.
The VR controller, which currently bears the name “Knuckles”, is to follow the movements of all ten fingers. The pointing finger will still use the trigger, although the trackpad as well as the face buttons are nothing new. However, capacitive sensors will notice the handle, where the middle, ring and small fingers are located.
Thus “Knuckles” can determine whether the grip is released or still more tightly accesses. This will make it possible to make selective movements in the VR games. Thus you can grab objects and let go with a natural hand movement. This should also allow you to throw specific objects. More details can be found in a recent blog post.
