Officially, Square Enix would like to publish the online role-playing game “Final Fantasy XIV” for the Xbox One and Nintendo’s Switch. However, technical aspects still hinder the appropriate implementation.
After Square Enix gave up the support of the PlayStation 3 version, the online game “Final Fantasy XIV” can only be played on the PC and the PlayStation 4 in the future.
In the past weeks and months, the Square Enix executives have talked about possible implementations for other platforms like the Xbox One or Nintendo’s Switch. According to Square Enix, they could not be realized because of technical events so far.
It is about the fact that the data traffic of “Final Fantasy XIV” runs completely over the servers of Square Enix. Only the authentication of the user account is made on the PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Network, for example. According to Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of online adventure, Microsoft continues to refuse to open the Xbox Live network accordingly. On Switch, on the other hand, there are other technical aspects of implementation which are not mentioned in more detail.
Despite all this, Square Enix continues to be interested in Xbox One and Switch versions of “Final Fantasy XIV” and leads the talks behind the scenes. “We want to win as many players as possible with Final Fantasy XIV, and we need to make sure that Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we are doing and what our quality controls are like,” said Yoshida ,
