“FIFA 18” will also be released for the Nintendo Switch released this year. However, buyers of this version have to reckon with drawbacks. The small print states that the Frostbite technology and the story mode “The Journey” are offered only for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
As we know yesterday, “FIFA 18” will be released on 29 September 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Last-Gen versions are as usual: they will come on the market as “Legacy Edition”, which means in practice: The buyers do not get a completely new developed game. Instead, the database is updated.
Also in the case of the Nintendo switch version of “FIFA 18” must be expected with drawbacks. According to the developer, this version will not be based on the Frostbite engine. The graphics engine, which has now become the favorite in many EA games, is only used in the “FIFA 18” versions for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It remains to be seen what kind of limitations the switch community will end up with.
And this was not the only downside: It also means that the story mode “The Journey: Hunter Returns” will not be playable on the Nintendo Switch. Whether buyers of this version have to live with further cuts, the future will show. Electronic Arts and Nintendo have not said anything about it.
