Sony has expressed itself in the context of a Japanese event to the competition and stressed that despite the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Xbox Scorpio sees in a position that is no cause for concern. With regard to PlayStation VR, a price reduction was indicated. First, however, the offer of high quality content should be expanded.
Sony has expressed its own business on the Investor Relations Day 2017 in Tokyo, to which the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Xbox Scorpio can have an influence. In this context, Tsuyoshi Kodera, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, asked whether these two consoles could lead to declining user numbers at Sony.
Kodera tried to rebut this fear, but rather pointed out that the market was “activated” by competing consoles. Although Sony is always looking vigilant at what the competition is doing, however, there is no uncertainty regarding the position of the PlayStation business.
PlayStation VR before a price reduction?
In the following, Tsuyoshi Kodera dedicated herself to the Virtual Reality Headset PlayStation VR. According to his statement, an increased delivery volume provides scope for a reduction in costs and price. Before that, however, it is important to create high-quality experiences for the customers. Sony is currently working on customer feedback to help increase PlayStation VR’s ease of use. This applies to both the hardware and the software.
Once the product is strengthened, the company could start “activities that have an impact on the price”. Ultimately, Sony has plans to keep a “good balance” in future activities. This should mean that both an adjustment of the costs and an expansion of the offer are to be expected.
Finally, Kodera emphasized that the introduction of the PlayStation 4 Pro aimed at generating a higher sales for core users and winning new players for the console. The standard PS4, which is now sold as Slim version, will continue to be offered and supported. This console is designed to appeal to price-conscious customers, who may not play quite often. Sony rewrote it as “Light User”.
