As the developers of Niantic announced, they would like to go forward in the future against the so-called “spoofing” in ” Pokemon GO “. This term refers to the transmission of fake GPS data.
In the past few months, the players complained again and again about the fact that certain Pokémon in the world of “Pokemon GO” can only be caught when one is in a certain place.
For example, in order to catch rare pocket monsters, which can only be found in another country, some players have decided in the past to put on the so-called “spoofing”. Here, we are dealing with a procedure in which counterfeit GPS data are transmitted.
In this way it is possible, for example, to find or catch a Pokémon, which can only be caught in the USA, in the living room. After the developers of Niantic in the last few months have already spoken on the subject, it seems now to be concrete.
So the former Google subsidiary announced via Twitter to take in the future tougher measures against players who make use of “spoofing”. Other users are encouraged to report relevant players so developers have the opportunity to view them more closely.
Whether and when a function follows, which completely prevents the transmission of fake GPS data is still unclear.
Thanks for all your reports. We’re working to add functionality to stop spoofing, and your reports are helping us with our investigations.
