Marvel’s efforts in the video game area are now being stepped up. Now the company’s managers have emphasized that they will also be working on virtual reality games and experiences in the future.
Since last year, Marvel has begun to put more emphasis on the quality of the in-house products, also in the video game sector. The company has now distanced itself from the classic versions to various cinema films and has instead decided to create high-quality and independent productions with new partners.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games are working on a new “Spider-Man” video game, while Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal have a “The Avengers” project. In addition, Telltale Games had already begun to launch an episodic adventure to “Guardians of the Galaxy” on the market. Furthermore, a new Beat’em Up will be released in September with “Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite”.
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Jay Ong, Senior Vice President of Games and Innovation at Marvel, talked about the future of the company and the advances in the virtual reality sector. Accordingly, the company plans to implement VR projects. According to Ong, Marvel at the end of last year concretely dealt with the VR technology. They had encountered “very unbelievable possibilities”, which could “really very cool experiences”.
The Marvel games are among the best titles
Ong was also referred to when you can expect initial information on these projects. He said, “Soon, there are really things in work, but we are not ready to announce them now.” But what can you expect from Marvel in the future?
“We’re looking forward to some announcements in VR, which is something we’re really looking forward to … I think our fans will be going out … […] We see VR in the same way we look at the other platforms ‘If you want to do something, you have to make something truly outstanding,’ “Ong continued.
Ong also remembers that Marvel had dreamed of 2014 to develop great console games and great mobile games that can mix the charts. This was “irrational and crazy” at that time, but his own brands are now very strong, which is why the dreams become reality.
“In VR we have the same ambition, we think that if we do something there, it should not just be because it is something new, it should be something that defines the platform that defines the experience That Spider-Man will be one of the best games on the platform when it appears, and when Avengers appears, it will be one of the best games on the platforms. We think our efforts in VR will be the same, Ong concluded.
