“GTA 5” and primarily the multiplayer part “GTA 5 Online” are also outstanding four years after the launch. Take-Two referred to this as part of the announcement of the latest business figures. “GTA 5 Online” continues to grow. In “Red Dead Redemption 2”, which is to follow the coming year and online part, Take Two sees no internal danger.
A game that spills more than four years of money into the coffers is likely to be the dream of all developers. Rockstar Games has met him with “GTA 5”. And the title continues to grow, not least thanks to the online part of the blockbuster. Four years after the launch, “GTA 5 Online” even recorded the best quarter to date (1 April to 30 June 2017). For Take-Two, this game component continues to be the largest sales force.
In the latest annual report, Strauss Zelnick went into the details and pointed out that “GTA 5 Online” had the most successful months in June and July 2017, according to the “Gunrunning” update on June 13, 2017. Therefore, it is no surprise that “GTA 5 Online” will continue to be supported in the future. Take-Two firmly believes that the success can continue for a while.
However, in the coming year “Red Dead Redemption 2” is expected to be equipped with an on-line component that acts on the same level as “GTA 5 Online” or even exceeds the scope of the “GTA 5” counterpart. Take-Two, however, does not believe that this online mode will pose a threat to “GTA 5 Online,” because “Red Dead Redemption 2” and “Grand Theft Auto 5” are too different. Furthermore, the market is big enough for two games of this size.
There is no new information regarding the sales number of “GTA 5”. As in May this year, Take-Two speaks of 80 million sales. Another million did not come to that.
