The Square Enix officials have revealed more details on the Nintendo 3DS version of the upcoming Japano “Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time”, a Japanese Nintendo Direct. So the handheld version will have two different gameplay modes to offer.
The more modern 3D mode shows the world and the combat system with a better graphics, while the classic and nostalgic 2D mode was designed to remember the original games of the series. Therefore, the 2D mode will also have to offer random battles in which there are no characters on the screen during the battle.
The event scenes are displayed differently depending on the gameplay mode. In a camp, you can switch between both modes while defeating monsters can be ridden in 3D mode. Furthermore, flying and running on walls can also be used.
In addition, the developers have demonstrated how the StreetPass feature works. This includes a special dungeon called “The Labyrinth of Time”, which can be played in the Koop with a group of up to eight players. If you defeat the gatekeepers, you will get “World of Adventure” scrolls, which can be presented to the elders to unlock nostalgic levels from past parts of the “Dragon Quest” series.
“Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time” will be released on July 29, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS in Japan. A local appearance has not yet been announced.
